Tooting Islamic Centre and Balham Mosque are appealing for volunteers to help with an 'unprecedented number of burials' due to COVID-19.

The Balham Mosque and Tooting Islamic Centre took the difficult decision to close their doors for prayers following the third national lockdown.

Despite places of worship being allowed to stay open in the current guidance, management felt that strict observation of the guidance provided to the mosque was lacking and putting people at risk.

Funeral services have continued throughout.

"The situation is dire at the moment, all hands on deck and need a larger team so we can minimise exposure for everyone," a spokesperson said.

If you are available to help - you can contact Tooting Islamic Centre on Twitter.
