Tooting Triangle application to go to public inquiry
A decision over the future of the Tooting Triangle has gone to a public inquiry.
The plans will look to improve the sporting and leisure facilities on Tooting Common, including three floodlit astroturf football pitches.
However, the future of the plan is still up in the air as the Planning Inspectorate has decided the application will go to a public inquiry.
The works will see an extension to the current buildings to make more space for Balham Amateur Boxing Club, a refreshment area and toilets.
Furthermore, the development would see shelter, loos and baby changing facilities available for young families near the playground. A soft play area will also be added and will be accessible from the playground, which will not have changes.
A consequence of this work will mean a 15-foot high mesh fence which would result in 80 yards of the common no longer being freely accessible to the public.
The Friends of Tooting Common (FOTC) tweeted the Planning Inspectorate's response to the application.
It reads: "An Inspector has considered the application and has decided to hold a public inquiry into the application."
The Twitter account @TootingTriangle , an account dedicated to the Triangle space, tweeted about the decision.
The tweet said: "It's all been quite quiet as we waited for the Planning Inspectorate to make their decision.
"We are now going to a public inquiry, be great to put across our side and listen to some of the concerns from objectors that haven't been answered already through this process."
You can read more about the application from the Tooting Triangle website or the planning application.
