The head of nursing at St George's is 'delighted' that three siblings were happy with their service after being struck by lightning.

Rachel, Isobel and Andrew Jobson were all struck by lightning on Monday (June 12) while cycling to their aunt's house and ended up in the Tooting hospital, as reported by the BBC.

Remarkably, Isobel managed to capture the moment they were struck on camera after attempting to take a sad selfie as they took cover during the rainy thunderstorm.

As you can see from the picture - taken at Molesey Lock - it's no surprise it made worldwide news.

Thankfully all three were discharged from the hospital just hours after they came in, having nothing more serious than burns.

Rachel paid tribute to the service they got from St George's, which was greatly appreciated by the hospital's head of nursing, Tori Cooper.

She said: "We are delighted to hear they were happy with the care they received here and will pass on their compliments to our staff in the Emergency Department who treated them.

"We wish all three a speedy recovery."

The incident

The three siblings are from maidenhead and were on their way to see their aunt in Epsom.

Needing a loo break, they stopped off at the lock. As the eldest sibling Rachel, 26, returned from the bathroom, she joined her brother and sister under some trees during the thunderstorm.

They all took a normal selfie and then wanted to take another while looking miserable to catch the mood of the weather.

Speaking to the BBC. , PhD student Isobel said: "The picture of us at the moment the lightning strike happened was at 17:05.

"I took a picture of us smiling and we then wanted a sad picture in the rain.

"All of a sudden I was on the ground and couldn't hear anything apart from this high-pitched buzzing.

"My whole right arm was numb and I couldn't move it."

Despite all three not having any serious injuries, the strike was still painful and shocking.

Rachel said: "We were taking the picture with our phone and then the next thing, I was on the ground. I felt disjointed. My sister and I were screaming.

"I got burnt on my thigh and stomach and it's left lightning-like marks behind on me and my sister. I couldn't feel my arm."

Nearby people then came and helped the siblings get on their feet before paramedics turned up and took them to hospital.

They were told at the hospital that a titanium plate in Isobel's arm may have caused the lightning to surge through their bodies, which was placed in her arm last year following another cycling accident.

The Jobsons plan on revisiting Molesey Lock, to say thanks to Harriet for looking after them, the owner of the H at Molesey Lock Cafe.
