The plaque unveiling to remember Marc Bolan's time in Tooting will feature a very special guest, it has been announced.
Andy Ellison, the founder and frontman of the band John's Children - which Marc Bolan was once a part of - will be performing at By The Horns Taproom before the unveiling of the plaque.
The schedule for the event, happening on September 18, has now been announced on Twitter.
Marc Bolan, the frontman of the band T-Rex, lived in Summerstown during the 1960s - and now the rock star will be commemorated for the time he spent living in the area.
Marc Bolan, born as Mark Feld, moved to the area at 13 when his family relocated from Stoke Newington in 1961. It was in this area where he learnt poetry and began busking, outside the Prince of Wales pub, which is now a Tesco Express.
It will all begin at 11am with a 'Marc Bolan's Teenage Dream' guided walk by Geoff Simmons, the founder of Summerstown 182 - a community history project that regularly hosts historic walks. Here people will meet at Tooting Broadway station before a unique guided walk will visit some of the key locations associated with the legendary musician. Please get in contact with [email protected] to book tickets for the walk.
That walk will conclude at the By The Horns Taproom, which is where people will meet for a drink before the ceremony.
This will kick off at 1pm, and feature the special guest Andy Ellison, before the unveiling will happen at 1.30pm, at the Tesco Express in Summerstown.
The plaque will be unveiled on September 18 because it is exactly 50 years after Get It On was number one in the charts in the UK.
Money was raised for the plaque on an online fundraiser set up by Geoff Simmons. You can still donate and the additional funds will be used to promote the event.
There will also be a guided walk in the build-up to the event from St Andrews Church in Earlsfield. This will run from 6pm on Monday September 13.
You can find more information, such as how to attend these walks and unveilings, from the Summerstown182 website or Geoff Simmons' personal Twitter page.
