"We need your support more than ever": Tooting Market will remain open throughout lockdown

Tooting Market has announced it will be remaining open throughout lockdown, albeit with some changes to regular scheduled programming.

To fit in with coronavirus guidelines, all food vendors will be takeaway only and most retailers will operate a click and collect system.

The gym, hair and beauty venues will have to close completely.

In a statement on social media, Tooting Market said: "We need your support more than ever."

The market will be hosting an evening of live music and trade tonight (4th Nov) as a final push to support the establishments that have to close.

A jazz trio will be playing between 7pm and 9.15pm.

Many traders and food vendors are relieved at the news they get to remain open.

BYO, a Zero Waste Shop in the market, will be continuing to refill customers' containers and hosting local deliveries.

The shop will now only allow one customer inside the premises at a time.

Jo Pike, assistant manager at BYO, told Nub News: "We're so happy that we are able to remain open during lockdown as we know lots of people rely on us for their plastic free food shopping.

"We know that plastic waste increased during the first lockdown due to increases in demand for takeaways, supermarket home deliveries and single-use face masks so we are pleased that this time we can remain open and continue offering people plastic-free options whilst still operating safely."

You can order delivery from BYO on Tuesdays and Fridays by emailing [email protected]. View a product list HERE.
