A body has been found in the River Thames by the police while searching for a local man who had gone missing.

Wandsworth Police launched an appeal to trace 27-year-old Mussa Mohammed on Monday (October 18).

Following the discovery of a body in the River Thames near Hammersmith Bridge yesterday (Wednesday, October 20), a spokesperson for Wandsworth Met Police stressed that formal identification is yet to take place, but that Mussa's family have been informed.

A statement from the police said: "Officers searching for a missing 27-year-old man from Wandsworth have found a body in the River Thames near Hammersmith Bridge.

"While formal identification awaits, the family of Mussa Mohammed have been informed.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing".

Police said Mussa was last seen leaving Le Fez nightclub in Putney at 4.02am on October 17.
