Police have made an arrest following a series of indecent exposures on Wandsworth Common and continue to investigate in the area.

Plain clothed police officers have been patrolling the area in recent days over a recent report of a man exposing himself.

A recent suspect has been described as a white male, aged between 35-50 years old, medium to large build with dark hair. He has been seen wearing a short navy blue jacket and blue jeans. On another occasion, he has been described as wearing a grey jumper, dark bottoms and a backpack.

Officers have identified a number of offences relating to exposure over the past six months.

A 34-year-old male from Wandsworth was arrested on Saturday, 25 September on suspicion of indecent exposure.

He was released on bail to return in late October.

A 38-year-old man from Chigwell has been interviewed under caution regarding an offence of indecent exposure. He is released under investigation.

To reduce the likelihood of further offences and provide reassurance to the public, officers from the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team are conducting highly visible and plain-clothed patrols in the area.

A crime prevention event was held on Wandsworth Common on Saturday, 2 October where general crime prevention advice and safety tips were made available to the local community and those who use the Common.

Other events are also being planned to keep people informed and safe.

Residents are being kept updated on patrols via social media.

Inspector Jonathan Lloyd of the Met's South West Command said; "While we have made one arrest and interviewed a second male under caution, we continue to investigate other active lines of enquiry with the aim of identifying and apprehending further suspects.

"This is a serious offence and anyone falling victim to this crime should dial 999 immediately. If you call straight away we have a far better chance of locating the suspect. In the meantime we are conducting extra patrols in the area and doing all we can to reassure our community."

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
