Garratt Lane has been shut in both directions due to a police incident.

The road had closed between Skelbrook Street to Earlsfield Station in both directions.

The public had been asked to "avoid the area".

Investigations are ongoing.

An Earlsfield Police spokesperson said earlier: "A section of Garratt Lane from the junction with Skelbrook Street to the railway station on both directions is closed due to an incident which police is investigating.

"Please avoid the area."

Popular traffic service Jambuster has confirmed that the road is shut. It is suggesting vehicle users to 'seek other routes'.

It says: "A217 Garratt Lane (SW18) (Both Directions) The road has been closed following an emergency services incident. Traffic is being diverted away. Seek other routes."

Police statement at 5pm

A Met Police spokesperson said: "A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 14:32hrs on Thursday, 21 October to reports of an assault on Garratt Lane, SW18.
