Coronavirus cases have increased over 32 per cent in Wandsworth over last week, recent figures reveal.

It's another very sharp rise for cases as last week it was up over 25 per cent on the week before.

As per the latest statistics (November 19 - November 25), there are currently 1611 people with the virus in the borough - 393 more than the week leading up to November 19.

This means there has been an increase of 32.3 per cent, with there being 488.6 confirmed cases per 100,000 people as per the Gov.uk website.

Tooting Common is the local area that has seen the biggest increase of cases , with 18 new positive tests taking its overall total to 26 (225 per cent increase). 404.1 people for every 100,000 have the virus in that area.

Wandsworth now has a higher infection rate than that of London's, England's and the UK's.

London has an infection rate of 354 out of every 100,000 people, while England's rate is 440.3 and the UK's is 439.4 (compared to Wandsworth's 488.6).

With a new Omicron variant spreading, bosses at St George's Hospital have urged local residents to follow the health advice set by the government.

The Omicron variant was detected in Wandsworth on Monday.
